About me

Welcome to my place of thoughts "Reflections of a Teacher".
I'm Margaret and a Down Under teacher living in Sydney.  I'm a wife, married for 29 years, mother to a beautiful boy called Adriano who is my miracle baby that I had at 40 and teacher for nearly 30 years. (Wow! That's a long time!)

Teaching all this time has been a learning experience all the way.
I strive to continue to engage my students and discover ways to make learning fun but more importantly I want children to discover ways to think, plan, create, question and engage in their learning making them independent learners and thinkers.
Learning should be a way for students to connect and understand their world.
My path in teaching has lead me to realise how important it is to REFLECT on your teaching so that you can provide an environment that promotes life-long learning.
I have learnt more importantly that teaching needs to meet the needs of all the students so 21st century learning needs to incorporate technology as well as all the different modes of learning to name a few.

I am an Early Childhood Teacher who after I graduated began teaching as an Italian language teacher as both my parents are Italian.   This is also a big part of who I am.
I then went on to teach Kindergarten, Year 1 and 2.
After 4 years of teaching I took time off to travel overseas.  When I returned I taught casually Kindergarten to Year 6, E.S.L. (English as a Second Language) students and a New Arrival Program. During this time I also taught at TAFE NSW (Technical and Further Education) where I taught for the Diploma of Early Childhood and Care.  When I returned to full time work again I was appointed to a Departmental Preschool where I taught for 18 years.  I recently completed my Reading Recovery training and now I am the Reading Recovery teacher and LaST (Learning and Support Teacher) at my school.  So even if I have taught for a very long time I'm still learning and this is what keeps me loving my profession.

I have been wanting to start this blog now for over 2 years.  I thoroughly enjoy reading other blogs and websites and wanted a way to share my ideas also.

I have wanted to be a teacher since the age of 6 and I have never looked back.  I am one of the fortunate ones who do what they truly LOVE to do.

"Reflections of a Teacher" describes my journey and the journey I'm still taking today.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about me.
